This is another fun project with Mesolini Glass Studio on Bainbridge Island. We have worked together on many lighting projects. This followed a smaller beside lamp like this that was made a couple years prior. We had often mused about doing a grand pendant like the smaller lamp. This light features two, large, matching pieces of fused and slumped glass, top and bottom. Black glass strings were fused onto the surface for a more graphic look. It was 20” in diameter and really heavy. The bottom piece is removable for changing bulbs. The metal ring is hammered, pierced with punches, and oxidized to a warm dark finish. It is then treated with several coats of wax. In the end, Diane and Gregg, from the glass studio, couldn’t part with it so we hung it over their dining room table. It takes three 60w equivalent, LED bulbs.
