This lamp was the result of what I call “shop doodles”. I leave lots of stuff laying about as a stimulant. This came from parts and pieces I would see everyday. They eventually came together to be this lamp. I had a friend that invited me to an estate sale the day before it opened to the public. The guy was a hobby machinist and had all sorts of materials and turned pieces left in his shop. I was invited to take anything I wanted. I am still using some of those pieces in my work today.
This lamp is made of aluminum tubing, aluminum plate, stainless screen, and aluminum turnings. The dimmer drum was created to keep any switches off the lamp body. All the aluminum has been treated with an aluminum blacking chemical generally used on firearms. The blotchy finish was on purpose. The oxidation was applied in small, overlapping patches to eventually give the finish you see here. It has a full range dimmer. The fixture stands 20” tall by 5” in diameter. It takes up to a 60w incandescent bulb or almost any medium base LED bulb.
