Created as a bedside lamp, this is another collaboration with Mesolini Glass Studio. They had produced a single shade to be used as a ceiling light. I had an idea that using a matched pair of them, as a sort of a clam shell, would be a unique way to show off their gorgeous glass. The shades are created from fused and slumped art glass with thin black, glass strings fused to the surface. The center “belt” is sheet copper that has been formed into a hammered and pierced band between the two glass shades. The transition from the base to the lower shade is fabricated from copper plumbing fittings and a piece of lightly hammered copper tubing. All the copper is oxidized to a dark bronze finish. It then receives multiple coats of wax. The base is fabricated from black Paperstone (an environment friendly counter top material made from recycled paper). It has a beautiful, glossy sheen that was sanded, oiled, waxed and polished. The lamp features a full range, inline, dimmer, on a twisted rayon cord. It is 14" tall x 14" in diameter. It takes three 60w equivalent LED bulbs.
