This project came to me through Mesolini Glass Studio. We often collaborate on lighting projects. They had a client ask them to make five menorahs as gifts. The job was for five distinct menorahs using Mesolini fused glass panels. My part of it was to make the bases that would hold the panels and candle cups. This menorah features art glass created using multiple strips of iridescent glass, fused into one gorgeous panel. I had some thick, live edge pieces of various hardwoods stashed away for special projects. In the beginning we were having some issues with securing the glass in the wood bases without breaking them. I came up with a way to lock them in place using a tapped hole, a thin piece of dowel, and a screw that pushed the dowel up against the glass. Two walnut plugs where laminated into the groove at either end of the base. This worked to center the glass. The wood was sanded, oiled, and waxed. The live edge was cleaned up but was left raw.
