My client had a tray of antique knick-knacks that resided under a flight of stairs. There were no outlets nearby and she didn’t want to run an extension cord under the carpet. My solution was to make a battery powered lamp that stood behind the tray with light from above. The light was a modified picture light that was usually used on a wall to light paintings and such. I created a walnut, copper, and brass lamp base that supported the picture light from below. I made a pocket in the walnut box that was level with the tray. The lid has a custom rosewood handle. The battery operates from inside the pocket and is easily removable for a USB charger. The light source is a full range, dimmable, LED tube lamp.
